The Root Chakra is located at the base of your spine and is the place where fear and survival instincts are stored. This is our connection to our tribe, the family structure. All the beliefs that we have accumulated from society and culture are connected to this area. This is the foundation of your emotional and mental health. Your identity in this world is created here and it is where you connect with a group and develop your sense of belonging.
Many of the “issues” that are found in this chakra stem from your safety and security and the ability to provide for yourself and defend your principals. Fears of abandonment and personal identity, feeling supported and loyalties are here.
This is the origin of the following health disorders: chronic lower back pain, rectal and immune disorders, depression, multiple personality disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, addictions, sciatica, varicose veins. You will also find eating disorders and malnourishment, adrenal insufficiency, problems with feet and legs, colon cancer, osteoporosis and other bone disorders.
In this chakra there can be conflict between what you have learned in your tribe (family) and what your soul is truly awakening to. Although conforming to societies standards is an important part of the survival process it can cover up the true self that is always seeking to emerge. Often though, it is time to leave the past conditioning behind. It is too complicated to heal by trying to sort through the trash of societies often dysfunctional beliefs that limit us. I believe it is more useful to just throw them out and start over. Often my guides have said that the only belief that is really necessary for survival in the world is that we need to put our clothes on every day.
Clearing this energy center can throw out fears and release us from obligations that no longer serve us. It requires that we arrive at the NOW, this disconnects our bodies from the survival mode and we can reach a state of calm. What should really be left in the root chakra is our grounding into the earth, accepting our place in the world and realizing that destiny defines us and not our beliefs that many times are the accumulated fears of those who raised us.
Attributes of the color red: Red is the symbol of life and like blood is the flow and mobility of our system.
