For 200,000 years humans have had a fascination with the crystal kingdom. This was evidenced by the discovery of Peking man near Beijing China where twenty different quartz crystals were found buried with the remains. Other archeological discoveries have found crystals as important objects in ancient societies.
Although it remains a mystery, they were obviously of some value for these people and we can assume that they had an energetic value. Stones carry the history of our planet, with each stone embodies all the physical processes that were involved in its evolution. In the modern world, crystals are key to storing and transmitting electromagnetic energy. The result is the use of crystals in the transmission of radio and television, radar and other sophisticated technologies. Within quartz is the element of silicon which is the key to the electronic capability of crystals and the reason for the name “silicon valley”.
For the shaman everything is alive and contains spirit, especially crystals. Shamans have used crystals for many of their healing powers such as retrieving lost souls, identifying the place of illness in the body and for seeking answers from the spiritual world. They also use crystals for clearing space and creating grids for protection. Animism is a similar belief system among many shamans who communicate with the elementals of devas, spirits, angels, animal spirits, gods and goddesses. It is believed that natural objects like rocks and crystals as well as plant, animals and humans have souls. Examples of animistic cultures include the Q’ero of Peru and Bolivia, various indigenous North American peoples, the Mayans of Central America, the Aborigines of Australia the Maori of New Zealand, the ancient Celts and Vikings, some African tribes and a few tribes in India. For these cultures nature is the source of wisdom for the human experience. Everything in nature is treated with respect and recognized for it powers to heal and support all beings. Shamans have been the masters of moving between the realms and supporting their tribes and peoples and defending them against natural disasters, illnesses, disease and the journey after death. All of their powers come from nature.
Chief Seattle put it this way in his letter written in 1852 to the white man:
“This we know, the earth does not belong to man, man belongs to the earth. All things are connected like the blood that unites us all. Man did not weave the web of life, he is merely a strand in it. Whatever he does to the web, he does to himself. One thing we know: our god is also your god. The earth is precious to Him and to harm the earth is to heap contempt on its creator. . . .As we are part of the land, you too are part of the land. This earth is precious to us. It is also precious to you. One thing we know: there is only one God. No Man, be he Red Man or White Man, can be apart. We are all brothers after all. “The shining water that moves in the streams and rivers is not just water, but the blood of our ancestors, If we sell you our land, you must remember that it is sacred. Each ghostly reflection in the clear waters of the lakes tells of events and memories in the lives of my people. The water’s murmur is the voice of my father’s father. The rivers are our brothers, They quench our thirst. They carry our canoes and feed our children. So you must give to the rivers the kindness you would give any brother.”
In the indigenous communities the crystal kingdom is considered the nervous system of mother earth, moving the energies through the planet and providing the connection of all things. By owning crystals you are tapped into the grid of the mother and her nurturing powers of earth. Each stone and mineral holds a consciousness and a purpose that is divinely given to it by the master crystal. By bringing crystals into your home you are bringing in beings of light and energy that resonate different energies. Every crystal that enters your life deserves gratitude to mother earth for connecting it to you and bringing you the needed resonance for your life. Earth is alive and everything on and under the earths surface is part of the being of mother earth, a sophisticated and balanced home. Crystals are the electronic grid system that moves the energies of the electromagnetic field and influences our auric field, harmonizing the energies that move through us. When we are able to attune ourselves to the power of this field we are then in congruence with the world we live in and can access the rest of the universe.
When a shaman walks in the world they are always on the look out for their “medicine”. Rocks and other objects will often call to them wanting to be part of their medicine bundle. You may have been collecting things that you were drawn to for your whole life. Spend the day with a child and you will see the natural attraction they have in picking up things and taking them home for an energetic boost. All of these acquisitions are part of our innate search for natural powers. If any of these objects have been in the company of powerful ceremonies they are even more infused and valuable. At many ceremonies, participants will bring their crystals to sit in the energy of the circle or work to absorb the high vibrational energies of the experience.
Crystals are seen as coming from the world of spiritual energy and are the bridge to alternative realities where much can be done to help those on this side of the veil. They are living beings that help the shaman in its worldly tasks. Crystals are used to amplify the powers of the shaman and they can transmit and transmute energies into positive outcomes. In many tribes, powerful crystals were passed down from generation to generation to heal. It is believed that when a shaman reaches its ultimate stage of awakening, the body turns into a crystalline form and the energies are raised into a powerful and compelling body formula. This is the state of a medicine man, a crystalline body and being and the journey to the purest form of being in the world and the ultimate state of enlightenment. The energies of the crystal world define what is pure so that our physical can align with the sacred geometry of our planet. This perfection is when the qualities of the spirit world are able to be transmitted through our bodies and transmit the qualities of each stone’s abilities.
The stone most used by shamans is clear crystal quartz as they can be programmed for all kinds of purposes. They are like hard drives ready to be engraved with the shamans intention. The more transparent the more light and power it emits. Crystals need to be empowered for your personal use and the intention to heal, the stone will not perform without being programmed. When the shaman is in its perfect geometric congruence with the natural world, the vibrations flow freely and in harmony. Clear crystals are power centers and considered solid light forms able to perform as enlightened objects and aid in seeing. In some cultures shamans would have crystals held on their third eye and sound was transmitted into opening it. Other techniques were to have shamans in training “drink” water infused to help them see spirits. Some rattles would hold small crystals in them and when shaken over a patient they would extract any intrusions in the body. Another technique was to merge the soul of a dying person into the crystal and then send them into the light of the celestial realms. Finally, one of the most important uses is for the extraction of entities and negative energies. A hand cut quartz crystals is best for extraction and it should be clear and have no surface fractures. When there are fractures the energy can leak out. When there are imperfections the entity can suffer pain while inside the crystal and resist the extraction process. Shamans believe that up to half of the illnesses people suffer from are due to entities. Most entities are rarely evil spirits, the majority are simply lost souls. After the extraction process the crystal is placed in flames and the energy allowed to flow out. An entity will leave the crystal accompanied by beings of light who will take it to the spirit world. If it is negative energy it will simply be combusted in the fire and mulched into nature.
Quartz crystals are also refractors of color and very connected to the power of the rainbow, an energetic powerhouse to ignite the chakra system. This frequency is the power of life and one of the highest levels of being or the “rainbow body”. The psychic “crystal ball” was inherited from shamans who would use crystal balls to see the future and to see images that exist on the akashic or recorded field of our existence. Shamans would also put the image of the person they wanted to heal in the ball if they were a long distance away from them and then ceremony would be performed with the image of that person in the ball.
To make a medicine bag, shamans will use the skin of wild animals or a woven cloth or leather pouch. It is kept wrapped up and used mostly during rituals or ceremony. Most of the items are extremely personal and never to be touched without permission from the owner. Anything can be a part of your medicine bag. Normally each piece contains a memory or power and can evoke emotions of its healing qualities or special place it was found in nature. Carrying a crystal in your pocket, it is believed that information will be transmitted to you in your dreams as to what is your next step. You will automatically receive all the divine guidance you will need. For your medicine bag you should have your “major” quartz crystal which is the center of power of the whole bunch. This is the power that infuses your collection of crystals with power. Look for your power crystal at Healing Crystals then clear it since the history of it is often unknown. You can wash it in a natural spring water source or the ocean. Take it to a spiritual place, a mountain top, a vortex or center of power, leave it there for several days to recharge itself and then place it in the center of your bundle. Every once in a while you should remove your power crystal and and tap it on a rock in nature that is in water to recharge its powers.
